About

Silven Joshua is an artist whose work is rooted in the strange undercurrents of the present and the echoes of the past. His paintings are set in romanticized, utopian landscapes, inviting the viewer into a world where fiction, memory, and current events gently intertwine. Rather than offering clear answers, his work suggests alternate narratives—some playful, some melancholic—that open up new ways of looking at the world.
Joshua's oeuvre is both narrative and contemplative, marked by a sense of nostalgia and timelessness. His paintings are figurative, yet he often abstracts details to focus on the essence of a scene or feeling. There is a balance in his work between the present moment and the traditions built by generations of artists before him. This equilibrium is reflected in his use of color, composition, and landscape, drawing inspiration from great masters in art history such as Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Stuart Davis, Henri Rousseau, and Henri Matisse.
The result is a body of work that is imaginative and escapist, yet also mysterious and ambiguous. Joshua's paintings do not simply depict; they invite the viewer to step into a story, to wander through a landscape where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred. Each piece is an open narrative, encouraging personal interpretation and emotional resonance.
Silven Joshua currently lives and works in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
